Sara Ramirez was raised by an American mother, and encountered a number of racial slurs, which made her feel unwelcome. Her confidence began to grow during the 9th grade, when she appeared in an audition and was highly praised by the judges for her vocal ability. This not only increased her confidence but also shifted the direction she wanted to go in her career. In the year 22 she received her degree from in the Julliard School of New York. When she turned 23, she started her journey in Broadway in the Paul Simon musical The Capeman. Then, at 23 years old she made her film debut in You've got mail. However her greatest breakthrough came when she played the part of The Lady of The Lake in the first Broadway performance of Spamalot garnering not only an award called the Tony Award for her performance but also a flurry of praise from critics. In the following year, when she was Callie Torres on Grey's Anatomy on ABC her role was given greater fame. A singer by profession and producer, she's produced one single and an extensive work. She is an activist who works tirelessly for LGBT equality.
